Winter Wreaths

This past week I trimmed some of the evergreens in the garden to make simple wreaths. Some of the greenery was obtained from the base of the Christmas tree, others from holly, boxwood and some laurels. The laurel I noticed has not lasted as well as I had hoped and is already showing signs of going brown. For decoration I used some the dried heads of hydrangeas alongside holly berries. The hydrangea heads dry in much the same color as when you pick them, but if left on the bush they mature to a dry pale brown color. Some heads can be used whole on the wreath, others are too large and need to be split down into individual florets of the flower head. A simple red bow finishes the wreath. Other colors can, of course, be used to complement your overall décor. The wreaths will last as outdoor decoration for several weeks and make a great addition to your outdoor decorations.
