Resources for Travel in Argentina – the Western Province of San Juan

Ischigualasto Provincial Park, together with Talampaya National Parks, form a Unesco World Heritage Site. Both parks are famous for their large number of remains of dinosaurs, and the oldest dinosaur discovered thus far was found in this particular park. It is very small, not even a meter long and a replica is displayed in the museum of the park, along with some other large replicas.

We can't visit the park independently; there are guided tours several times a day. For those with public transport there is a bus. Travellers with their own car can follow the convoy and off we go. An enthusiastic guide explains the geology of this huge desert valley, with not only red walls but also bizarre, white-greyish stone formations. Some of the stretches are so eerie and uninhabitable that this park is nicknamed "Valley of the Moon".

Ischigualasto Provincial Park is just one of the highlights of the province of San Juan. Below are links to articles that cover several interesting parts of this region in Argentina. Enjoy!
