Resources for Travel in Argentina – Che Guevara's Statue, Architecture and Flag Day in Rosario

While I was asking for information at the Tourist Office of Rosario, Coen was approached by Jeroen, a Dutchman, who had lived here for several years and who offered us to stay in his apartment. It was the beginning of our "planned" one-day stay in Rosario, which grew into a more than two-week visit.

On Sunday everything was closed, which made it nice and peaceful to stroll along the streets and admire old buildings. Rosario has quite a large heritage of historic buildings from around the 1900s, although they are threatened by the ruthless growth of huge, ugly apartment buildings. We especially liked the "Urban Museum", murals of Rosarian painters that have been copied on large empty walls of flats.

We continued our walk and had a coffee at café Rock & Feller's – a chic café with high ceilings, a wide shiny bar, leather seats and walls decorated with pictures of music stars. The history of this building is less glorious. During the dictatorship [1976-1983] it was an open secret that in the cellars of this building people were held captive, tortured and disappeared through its underground passages. There are plans to change this bar into a "Museo de la Memoria" [Museum of Memories] that will tell the story of the dictatorship.

Rosario was a city that grew on us. The more I walked around, the more details I noticed in architectural buildings and also discovered that Che Guevara was born here. We made one day-outing to Victoria. Even though it's known for its UFO sightings we saw nothing unusual roaming the sky. Unfortunately, really. But it is a friendly town for a stroll and a visit to its UFO museum.

Below you'll find links to articles I wrote about both towns. Enjoy!
