Science and art have found a fascinating marriage in the usuable artworks of Rachel Wingfield and Mathias Gmachl. They have created fabrics that glow and react to stimulus. The website in the link provides photographs you really have to see to believe. Hopefully someday soon items similar to the ones they have made will find their way into the Ikea catalog!
