Looking at the transformer

Ever since childhood, I've been fascinated with electronic equipment. My father would bring home bits and pieces of electrical devices from his job in the military - I prefer to think that they were surplus parts. I had boxes of parts, wires, magnets and batteries. I rarely decided to construct anything useful, but was happy instead connecting various parts in different combinations just to see what would happen. I think my father, who must have assumed I was going to be a proper little girl, was surprised that I liked such things, and also surprised that a tiny burnt out motor was far better received than the gaudiest doll.

So now I am going to share my love of all things electrical with you, beginning with the transformer.
