Dairy Queen, Two for One Blizzards

Sign up for the Blizzard Fan Club at the Dairy Queen Web site and receive your two-for-one coupon by email.

Diary Queen Blizzard Fan Club members also get additional gifts and special promotions throughout the year delivered to their email inboxes. They are the first to hear about new Blizzard treats and are part of a team that rates new flavors.

The ice cream franchise introduced the Blizzard at the 1984 Dairy Queen convention in Hawaii and in 1985 officially launched the concoction of soft serve ice cream blended with additions such as candy, nuts and fruit. Dairy Queen employees originally handed Blizzards to customers upside down, demonstrating the copyrighted slogan, “Upsidedownright Thick.”

Since its introduction in 1985, more than 75 Blizzard Flavors have been introduced by Dairy Queen. The most popular flavors are Oreo Cookie, Chocolate Chip cookie dough, M&Ms, Reese's Peanut Butter Cup and Butterfinger. The Blizzard of the Month program began in 2002. DQ now also offers Blizzard cakes.

If you join, keep in mind that Dairy Queen Blizzards, however tasty, are high in saturated fats and calories. The DQ Web site features a handy nutrition calculator that lists the saturated fat content of a small Oreo Cookies Blizzard at 10 grams (50 percent of the daily recommended value for an average adult) with 560 calories. If you’re hungry enough to tackle a large Oreo Cookies Blizzard, you will down 1,000 calories and 18 grams of saturated fat (90 percent of the amount recommended daily).

Dairy Queen Blizzards should be a yummy, but occasional, treat for the health-conscious frugal family.

Cold Stone Creamery also has online coupons. Fast food restaurant Chik-fil-A is another eatery offering coupons: get a free chicken sandwich and a coke for a limited time.
