Inman News reported that Pennsylvania lawyer Mark Morrison has been charged with stealing nearly $100,000 in mortgage settlement payments from two elderly couples.
He was given the money to settle two previous mortgage loans on two properties. Morrison tried to conceal the fact he had not discharged the mortgage by changing the billing address billing address for one of the loans and making smaller monthly payments. The deceit was uncovered when Morrison was late with a payment and the property owners were contacted by the lenders.
Morrison now faces felony theft charges and forgery charges. Each charge carries a maximum penalty of 7 years in prison if he is convicted.
