Holata Micco was a respected leader and a capable military commander. He was wise in the tactics of the white man's wars and avoided direct combat in order to preserve his small force. In the Third Seminole War we have concluded the war for control of Florida was yet another draw. In each of the three conflicts that have been examined in this study, the Seminole had managed to strike from the woods, inflict heavy damage to the Americans, and them withdraw before they could be routed. The heavily trained American forces were unprepaired for the marshes and the swamplands in which their enemy found safety. Having been transplated to Florida in their historical past this and pushed into the less habitable regions, the Seminole had managed to adapt. actics. This is why it is safe to declare that while the U.S. gained control of the region, it never pacified its enemy. This is a fact that is still maintained by the remaining Seminole in Florida.
