While Tecumseh might not have had a unique idea, he nontheless enbraced his task with the dedication of a warrior. He built his concept of a Native American state on the military alliance of the Miami warrior Little Turtle. However, where Little Turtle had envisioned a loose alliance for the purpose of defending against American invasion, Tecumseh wanted a permanent coutry to act as a buffer zone. This series on Tecumseh and his plan for union picks up where the saga of Little Turtle left off. The first part of this examination on his vision explores the parameters of the native state and the philosophical basis on which it would exist. The second part will delve into the complications of establishing this alliance and the drawbacks Tecumseh encountered as the Americans sought to put a stop to his efforts.
