Self-Help Measures For Endo

I thought I'd put together a list of allopathic (drug-based) and alternative therapies you can do at home to help relieve endometriosis.

Allopathic:

Co-Dydramol tablets - these are a mixture of paracetamol and codeine. Worked on me for another severe pain condition but made me sleepy and unable to do anything. Could be good if your pain is very bad and you need a short term solution.

Ibuprofen tablets - for more mild pain.

Please read the patient information sheets which come with these drugs to check for side-effects and make sure you aren't contraindicated.

Alternative:

TENS machines, which transmit tiny electrical impulses into the back and are used by women in labour, can be effective. I used one for 2 of my labours and could not have managed without one. They have the advantage of being drug free. Please note, if you have a cardiac pacemaker fitted or a history of heart disease, please do not use this method.

Evening Primrose oil tablets.

Hot water bottle or lavender wheat bag heated in a microwave or on a radiator, can be soothing
