What is Christian Music?

I was at a friends house this weekend when the subject of music came up. One of our group was lamenting about how Christian bands now a days don't even talk about Jesus. He told the story of some non-Christian friends that listened to Thousand Foot Krutch and didn't even know they were Christian.

I try not to get caught up in these types of debates unless I feel that the other party has an open mind. This friend of mine is a great guy and a powerful warrior for Christ and I love him dearly. But I have to disagree with him.

I have talked a little with Trevor McNevan and there is no doubt he has a passion for young people. I've seen him in action, not just on the stage but before and after the concert as well. Whatever you think of his bands music, Thousand Foot Krutch is a group of guys that love the Lord and they speak into the lives of their audience.

I also know that Thousand Foot Krutch, like many Christian artists, have done some crossover work. I know in Detroit they played at some shows promoted by our local secular rock station and some songs played on that same station. Again, many of my Christian brethren ripped this decision apart. Maybe I'm wrong, but I thought we were supposed to go out into the world.

What about the musician who is a Christian that is tired of preaching to the choir? Should they not do what they feel God is leading them to do?
