Shane Werlinger's BlogPosted by Shane Werlinger Though Stephen King and Jane Yolen don't write the same style, they both have a special place in my heart. I've been reading Stephen King since I've been 12 years old and deeply admire his writing and what he has accomplished in his career. Needless to say I was very excited to read his book that he wrote about writing called On Writing. I had never heard of Jane Yolen, but an instructor suggested that I read her book, Take Joy. I went out and bought it and have to say that it really has been a help on mhy writing journey. I have written an article about these two books that have helped me out and it can be found here. Posted by Shane Werlinger All of us have a handful of websites we check everyday. It's part of my morning ritual to start up the computer, check email and then cycle through my sites. Many of those sites are writing related, which should be of no surprise. I also have a subset of sites I go to a few times a week, rather than everyday. Once again, many writing related. Over time I plan to share with you sites that have helped me on my journey as a writer. There are so many great sites out there and I could go on about all of them, so it will take some time. I want to make sure that I give you the information you need about each site. When I first started writing, I focused on writing for children. Consequently, the first two sites I profile are geared towards children writers. The great thing about the sites though, is that the information is incredibly helpful to writers no matter what you write. While I'm not as focused on writing for children as I was, the information from these sites is priceless. You can learn all about them by going to the article, Websites For Children's Writers. Posted by Shane Werlinger Everybody likes free stuff. I know I do. The problem with free software is that the quality is usually lacking. Many times it's a demo that stops working after 30 days or you can only use a few of the many functions. I am happy to tell you that there is software geared for writers that is absolutely free. I have found some software that will help you whether you like to write as a hobby, or you are a serious freelance writer. A couple of them are made for writer by writers. There are other options to forking out your hard earned cash to Mr. Gates. So where can we get this information you ask? It's in my latest article, Free Software for Writers. I am confident that these will help you. Let me know if there is any freeware you have used that you think others should check, or maybe stay away from. Posted by Shane Werlinger Hello all and welcome to my first blog post. My journey as a writer has been a good one and I have had a lot of help. My goal here is to help other writers with my experiences, and since I am still learning (aren't we all) when I come across something I think will help my fellow writers, I will let you know. I have a lot of ideas for this and I am excited where this is going to go. I have some authors and writers in mind to interview that will shed some light on the publishing and writing world, as well as practical tips that have helped me along the way. If there is ever any way I can help, please don't hesitate to let me know. |
