At 11 years of age Skateboarder Nyjah Houston started skating with the best. During his first year as a pro he skated against an "older", more experienced group of skateboarders (like 16 year-old Ryan Sheckler!). It may be hard to believe, but there are kids out there ripping it up who are even younger than Nyjah. The good news for them is that there is finally a forum dedicated to them.
I stumbled upon the Kids Who Rip website while researching another story. KidsWhoRip.com is a site where kids can upload their own pictures and videos of the sports they compete in. Even the youngest kids (5-6 years old) have a place to show off their skills and make new friends with similar interests.
In addition to the website, Kids Who Rip has produced four DVD's with these young role models in action. Olympic snowboarder Shawn White appeared on the first video, 10 years before his gold medal win.
For 2007 the kids who will appear on the DVD and upcoming television show will be selected by votes from the website. The forum is for kids though; only kids are allowed to vote and participate. Kids Who Rip strives to spotlight kids who reflect a healthy, goal-oriented lifestyle.
I've now watched three of the four DVD's. I was thoroughly entertained watching what those kids can do. Better yet, my kids have become huge fans of the DVD's (and that's who the target audience is!)
If know a kid who's into action sports (or are one), I recommend checking out the Kids Who Rip website. And keep your eye out for the October '06 release of Kids Who Rip 4. I've seen it, those kids can rip!
