Kayaking gives a person the chance to truly "get away from it all". Whether you engage in whitewater kayaking or have the ocean in your backyard, there is nothing like spending time on the water to help you tune out the busy demands of everyday life.
There are those who've only seen a kayak from a distance. For those who are new to the sport Kayaks is an article designed to give you some very basic information on kayaks and the history of kayaking.
Kayaking is a highly adaptable sport. There are literally bodies of water everywhere and most can be boated upon. You don't even need to limit yourself to the type of water you live near. Kayaking clubs throughout the world organize trips, going where they most want to boat. There is, for example, a Rocky Mountain Sea Kayak Club. The Rocky Mountains are nowhere near the ocean but the group organizes sea kayaking trips in addition to frequent day trips to nearby lakes.
If you really have an interest in kayaking, check for outfitters and instructors in your area. There really is nothing stopping you!
