Halloween Resources for Parents

Halloween season is almost upon us (my 5-year-old keeps talking about the candy she's going to get already) and it's time for parents to start thinking trick-or-treating. These ideas for easy DIY Halloween costumes and cardboard box costumes lessen the pressure on parents.

Trick-or-treating is so much fun for kids of all ages, but remember a few basic Halloween safety tips:

  • Stick to well-lit roads with sidewalks for trick-or-treating
  • Accompany children or make sure they trick-or-treat in a group
  • Provide kids with flashlights and reflective or light-colored material on their costume
  • Make sure to have a brief safety talk before they go: no getting in anyone's car or entering anyone's house

For older kids who are going trick-or-treating without a parent, set a time to be home and know the route they'll be taking during the night.

And just for curiosity's sake, readers might want to take a look at Do Mormons Celebrate Halloween? (We're actually a lot more normal than you think.)
