Who says fundraising can't be glamorous? Each year, the Alzheimer's Association in the United States sponsors two galas in honor of Rita Hayworth, who had Alzheimer's Disease at the end of her life. These galas have been going on since 1985, and have raised over $42 million. 100% of the funds go to support and research. Ms. Hayworth's daughter, Princess Yasmin Aga Khan, hosts the events. New York's gala is held annually in the fall, while Chicago's gala is held yearly on Mother's Day weekend.
This year's Chicago gala had the theme "Tales of Manhattan", with a 1940's elegance. The upcoming New York City event, being held Tues, Nov. 14, spotlights the Four Tops' hit song "I'll Be There", with special guest singer Michael McDonald. For more information about this event, see Rita Hayworth Galas.
