Last month Brian De Palma and his entire cast descended on the Venice Film Festival, with an eye on success.

However, the film received mixed reviews and has done ever since.

The usual De Palma touches are there with sweeping camera work and beautiful visuals. The problem is that underneath the style there is no substance.

As such the film has only crept into the number 2 slot at the box office this week, with a poor return on its big budget.

It is still early and the film may yet find a bigger audience. But the critics will never unite and award success is now highly unlikely.
