The Hunter Gatherer Diet

The diets of hunter gatherers were healthier than those that arose as after the Neolithic revolution and the rise of farming. An experiment with volunteers in Sweden has established that a diet rich in lean meat, fruit, nuts and berries and devoid of dairy products and grain based foods lowers blood pressure and guards against obesity. So our Neolithic ancestors were fitter and slimmer although on the downside they were more prone to osteoporosis due to the lower levels of calcium in their diet.

It seems that there is some relationship between diet and general health. Neolithic human tooth and bone studies indicate increased dental problems as a result of increased starch in the diet (tooth decay) and malnutrition (Rickets). I haven't heard of any evidence that showed neolithic people were any healthier than any one else although I think there is some evidence that they were less healthy than Paleolithic or contempory hunter gathers do to increase dependency on starch in the diet.
