The Difference between Pandemic and Epidemic

My Webster's New World Dictionary gives these definitions

  • Pandemic - prevalent over a whole area
  • Epidemic - prevalent and spreading rapidly among many individuals in a community at the same time

I guess that's pretty clear, the big difference is "spreading rapidly". H1N1, or the Swine Flu, isn't yet spreading rapidly.
