Korean Rider Killed At Asian Games

All cultural activities at the Athlete’s Village in Doha were halted on Thursday as officials from the Doha Asian Games Organising Committee announced the death of one of the competitors.

Veteran Korean rider Kim Hyung Chil, from Seoul, died in a tragic accident during the Equestrian Individual Cross Country competition.

The 47 year old was crushed under his mount on Fence 8. Kim was the oldest member of the Korea Equestrian team and had won the Silver Medal in the team competition at the 2002 Asian Games in Busan.

His horse Bundaberg Black was not injured.

The event was immediately suspended but after two and a half hours and an inspection of both course and fence, by the technical delegate, it was able to resume.
