It seems that Trader Joe's is always one step ahead of the average supermarket when it comes to innovation. And their frozen tempura vegetables are no exception.
I love these things! Even better: these tempura vegetables are a cinch to prepare. Just place the frozen vegetables on a cookie sheet and bake 10 minutes. The package even includes a dipping sauce.
At 270 calories per serving, Trader Joe's tempura vegetables aren't exactly the lowest calorie vegetables you can eat, but they will appeal to kids. And they have 100% of the recommended daily allowance for Vitamin A per serving.
A slightly lower-fat option is the Trader Joe's frozen Vegetable Samosas. While I didn't think they tasted authentic (not nearly as good as my favorite Indian restaurant), they were tasty.
And these samosas are another great way to introduce kids to vegetables. Two Trader Joes samosas have 170 calories, 6 grams of fat and 1/2 gram of saturated fat.
Finally, check out my recipe for tempura style broccoli. With just 3 grams of fat per serving and plenty of vitamins, minerals, protein and fiber, this recipe is tasty and healthy!
