This Sunday in Houston, Texas, the Aramco Half Marathon will serve as the USA Half Marathon Championship. The 2007 edition has attracted some of America's best athletes, including Olympic Silver Medallist in the Marathon, Meb Keflezighi (CA - Nike).
Challenging Meb will be a slew of young Americans, headlined by phenom Ryan Hall (CA - Asics), cult-icon defending champion Brian Sell (MI - Brooks), and former champion Dan Browne (Nike) of Oregon.
The start list is also littered with members of the motivationally inspiring Brooks-Hansons Distance Project from Rochester Hills, Michigan. Other notables include Fasil Bizuneh (VA), who back in December captured the White Rock Half Marathon in Dallas in a stunning 1:02:59 performance. Max King of Team XO (OR) is also a threat with his 1:03:08 best, as well as Andrew Carlson of Team Minnesota (MN) and his 1:03:21 best.
Weather forecasts predict warm and rainy conditions, so fast times may be out of the question on this absolutely flat course. However, look for a two-to-three man race between Hall, Keflezighi, and Sell, as a small pack will surely break away after the 9-mile turnaround.
