Since I’m off to a late start in writing this blog, I guess I must admit it looks as though I’m starting this week’s picks with a loser. Truth to tell, I picked the Broncos over the Texans … and, at this writing, Houston is leading Denver. So I suppose I could call this column a mud blog.
That said, you can again expect several “gimmes” once again this week in National Football League action. The Bengals should roll over the hapless 49ers, and Tampa Bay should easily handle the clueless Falcons, although an Atlanta upset sure would be nice in the wake of Carpetbagger Bobby Petrino’s after dark slither out of town.
The Seattle Seahawks should throttle the Carolina Panthers, and Green Bay will handily dispense with the St. Louis Rams. Expect Miami to fall to 0-14 at the hands of the Baltimore Ravens, and an Indianapolis Colts’ victory over the Oakland Raiders is a lock.
In more competitive contests, Minnesota should add to Chicago’s woes, and the Patriots will beat the Jets by double digits, although I don’t think it’s going to be the blowout many predict. The Giants will end the Redskins one-game winning streak as long as Eli Manning keeps his cool. And – with or without quarterback Donovan McNabb – the Eagles will fall to Dallas. San Diego should beat Detroit, extending the Lions’ losing streak.
The Titans will defeat Kansas City, and expect the Browns to detour Buffalo’s bid for a wild card spot. Despite their dearth of running backs, New Orleans will handle Arizona. The Steelers should bounce back after their loss to the Pats by beating Jacksonville.
