Vienna Rocks This Summer

With 2006 being the 250th anniversary of Mozart's birth, it's easy to think of Vienna as being a city of classical music. Fortunately, the Viennese are a diversified bunch.

In addition to the year-long schedule of events celebrating Mozart and his music (see http://www.wien.info/article.asp?IDArticle=12229 for details), Vienna is also the home to an interesting and exuberant nightlife scene.

Guitar bands and Djs fill the vaulted arcs of the Stadtbahn on a regular basis. Local clubs like Flex at the Danube Canal have been selected as some of the best worldwide. The basses at Flex have been the talk of town for quite awhile, and the garden directly on the banks of the Danube offer an additional attraction. And there's more where that came from. For more information about Vienna's nightlife, check out http://www.wien.info/article.asp?IDArticle=13856.

If you happen to be in Vienna at the end of June, the Danube Island Festival is the place to be. About 500 hours of live international rock and pop music will be offered June 23-25. This unique open-air concert is expected to attract more than 3 million visitors. Beyond the free music, a variety of culinary treats will be available. Details at www.donauinselfest.at.
