The Southern California Booksellers Association made two important changes this month in preparation for the new year. Long a bastion of independent bookstores fighting to keep their honored places among the cookie cutter world of big box book stores like Crown and Barnes and Noble, it embraced that by adding "Independent" to its name. Now it is called the Southern California Independent Booksellers Association.
In a move that should make authors happy, they also brought their catalog in house. This means that authors who have had a bit of trouble getting exposed to such a diverse group of stores selling such diverse books will have a better change of getting heard in the right market.
