Industry heavy hitter Borders Books and Music announced that it would be scaling back its music section to create more room for a variety of other "retail opportunities".
CD sales were down 18%, while book sales were up 1%. Borders is contemplating additional space for gifts, stationary, books, book signings and events and a possible digital music kiosk system, but nothing is concrete yet.
Currently, remodeled stores with more book space and less music space are doing increased sales across the board.
