This weekend, I found a generic food that I would call a "stinker." Most of Wal-Mart's Great Value generic products are great. I buy all generic every week and very rarely get a product that is poor quality.
I save an absolute ton of money and a lot of time using generic products because store brands with coupons usually cost more than generics. But this weekend, the Great Value corned beef hash was not good.
Since Great Value (and most other generic brands) offers a money-back guarantee and I save my grocery shopping receipts, I will not be out any money for this experiment. Other "stinkers" have included the generic refrigerated pizza dough in a tube and the generic Velveeta.
I recently wrote about using generic products and other ways to save money without coupons in How to Lower Grocery Bills Without Coupons.
Those tips are helpful for overall grocery shopping but families with children may need additional help to save money on the essentials. How to Save Money on Meat and Bread and How to Save Money on Milk and Vegetables can help parents feed their families on less without sacrificing good nutrition. Tips to Make Using a Shopping List Easier can assist parents of children who need to get used to hearing "no" at the grocery store and help others make using a shopping list more effective.

Wishing you a Happy New Year and happy grocery shopping!
