I was recently reading a book by Edward Taub on revitalizing the body and losing weight. His philosophy is similar to a lot of the material, yet quite unique in others, I have read in the past. There is a general consensus that to a certain degree, people eat for emotional reasons, thus the term “emotional eaters”. This certainly contributes to most overweight adult’s problem, but by no means is the only reason for the obesity epidemic.
According to Mr. Taub there is a correlation between the quality of food eaten and one’s ability to lose weight. By quality of food I’m referring to live foods (fruits and vegetables) vs. dead foods (processed foods). He states that the foods eaten actually contribute to the emotions and energy level of the individual consuming them.
I believe there is some validity to this mindset. Eating unhealthy foods keeps you caught in a cycle of low energy and feeling less than vibrant and energetic. This perpetuates the need for the illusion of foods that satisfy cravings for sweet, salty, greasy, fatting foods. I say illusion because these foods don’t make you feel better, but actually continue to deplete you vital energy and keep you wanting more of them. You think you’re satisfying a desire when all you’re really doing is bring yourself further and further down. There is however a way to breakout of this vicious cycle and truly feel better both emotionally and physically. We’ll explore the possibilities in my next article.
