I had an interesting experience the other day. I went to my client’s home for one of her weekly sessions. She recently had a baby and desires to get back to her pre-conception weight. When I arrived she was wearing one of those baby harnesses with baby in tow. She indicated that she would be able to train with the baby in that position so I agreed to proceed.
Understanding her commitment, I devised a plan that would do just that, work her out. Initially we decided to do a split routine working lower body on that day and following up with an upper body workout our next session. At first the baby co-operated with the plan but later decided to alter the plan, he began to crying!
Since my client had completed a good portion of the session we decided to continue working with one minor adjustment, I was now holding the baby. After all, she exhibited such a strong desire to workout what else could I do? Well I took the baby and continued instructing her. It wasn’t 5 minutes before the baby was sleeping and my client asked if I would become her official baby-putter-to-sleep.
The moral of the story is; once you commitment or set your goal(s) you don’t let anyone or anything deter you from reaching them even if it means eliciting the help of some hapless bystander. Ok, maybe not a stranger, but someone you know. You might need a baby sitter for an hour, someone to remind you to hit the gym, a partner you meet at the gym a few times per week, pictures of your ideal body, motivational saying posted in plan sight or whatever it takes.
