I was recently reading an article on a study conducted on cat in the early 1930's. The article basically discussed the affects on cats eating unhealthy or processed foods versus healthy or unprocessed foods. The findings were very shocking to say the least.

The researchers used something like 600 cats and divided them into two groups. One group was fed raw meat along with milk and cod-liver oil while the other group was fed cooked meat, milk and cod-liver oil. This test was closely monitored and strictly administered. The researchers conducted the test on 4 generations of cats and the results were very revealing and informative. What they found after 4 generations of testing is that the cats fed the healthy diet developed normally with no abnormalities or deficiencies in their physiology. The cats fed the unhealthy diet on the other hand had numerous problems with each new generation. They gave birth to other cats that had abnormal variations; among them were poor eye sight, heart problems, thyroid and bladder problems, nervous system problems, meningitis and paralysis, infection of various organs, ovary and testis problems, liver and bone problems, failure of the reproductive system and numerous other problems.

Although it is not clear how long it would take humans to experience similar problems, there is evidence that something is happening to us right now. Each generation of children born has diseases and disorders that years ago were predominantly adults diseases. I mention all of this, not frighten you but make you aware that we need to re-examine our nutritional intake and take appropriate measures to ensure proper nutritional balance when planning and consuming meals.

We are always talking about fitness and the things necessary to achieve it. The possibilities are endless or so it would seem. You can involve yourself in activities from walking to power-lifting or martial arts. There are indeed many options to choose from when deciding on a path to fitness. Which brings me to my point, making a decision and sticking with it. We know that with the holidays approaching very quickly, there is the possibility that something won’t get done.

For most people it’s the things we dread or dislike that we tend to push to the bottom of our to-do-lists. Once again for most people this will be represented by little or no exercise or so they think. We can actually make this up with all of the ripping and running most of us will be doing in preparation for these wonderful holidays. The point is though your daily course of activities you receive fitness benefits.

The holidays will certainly accelerate the pace at which we go about cooking, cleaning, shopping and moving in general. Things that we naturally do now take on the guise of exercise (how wonderful)! Keeping it natural can create the illusion that you are not really working out, when in fact you are receiving powerful health benefits. I’d like to discuss this concept even more in my next article.

I’d like to take this opportunity to appeal to all those that have not only been immune to exercise addiction but are so far on the other end of the spectrum that they have contracted exercise avoidance addiction. Exercise avoidance addiction is a condition where any contact with exercise equipment or any attempt to become physically active causes severe reactions. These reactions generally case the avoider to have to sit for long periods of time on a couch or chair in front of a television set or computer doing absolutely nothing. Other symptoms include serious cravings for sweet, salty or large quantities of foods deemed to be unhealthy for human consumption. Another condition of exercise avoidance addiction is the ability to have an excuse for any attempts made by family or friends to get the individual moving.

If this sounds like you, don’t fret; there are ways to combat this condition. The first thing you should do is consult www.suite101.com/wellness/fitness for important updates on the latest treatments available. After reading the articles that apply to your condition, begin slowly and stay consistent. If you follow these guidelines it’s quite possible you can reverse the effects of this dangerous condition and be on your way to a healthier, happier life.

With all the talk about children's health and fitness, don't you think it's time we did more? The numbers are staggering when compared to 20 years ago and what has changed in that same span of time? I'll tell you what has changed. Children are less active, eating more junk foods and being diagnosed with more diseases than ever. In addition, technology has advanced to the point where we are supposed to have more time to enjoy life and each other when just the opposite seem to be occurring.

As a fitness professional, I am concerned about the state of the children in this country and feel as parents and adults we must step forward and take the lead. If you’re not sure how to do this please reread my article “How Active is Your Child Mom/Dad?” and begin implementing some of the suggestions I have made. If you still need assistance please contact me either through the discuss forum after the article or email me at fitness@suite101.com. I will be more than happy to assist you in any way you feel necessary to promote change in our children’s lives. I hope to hear from lots of parent real soon. We can make a difference, Thank you. Ok folks, for some of us it's nearing the end of those long, warm summer days. I understand not all of us live in areas that will be affected by the weather as the season changes. None-the-less, this is a great time to think about changing your fitness routine or at least adjusting it. Using the seasons as an indicator will ensure that you at least consider changing your routine 4 times per year.

If you're like me and live in an area where a change of seasons signals a change in temperature, you might be forced to take up activities that can be done indoors. I'm not saying that you must go indoors to continue your fitness pursuits, on the contrary, there are many activities that can only be done outdoors when its colder, skiing comes to mind as one such activity. I'm just suggesting that you consider some other possibilities to keep your training fresh and exciting. After all change can be a good thing, and it helps to prevent boredom. I'll talk more about this in an upcoming article so check back soon.
