Around the World at Sea

A bathing suit and pareo or two for Maui and Tahiti. In Mumbai the pareo turns itself into a sari, and in Dubai it can cover my hair. No jeans, because in many big cities overseas, jeans are a no-no. But, then, I can’t imagine wearing jeans on a luxurious and legendary cruise ship like the QE2. Comfortable walking shoes for the steep sidewalks of Hong Kong and Valparaiso. A couple of skirts and pants and a mix of short-sleeved and long-sleeved shirts, a sweater or two, and I’m done. It will all fit into a single suitcase. Sure.

Let’s see. Another suitcase for all the personal toiletries and cosmetics I’ll need for three months away, because who wants to waste time in Singapore or Capetown looking for toothpaste? And five or six suitcases for all the sequins and sparkles I’ll need for 80 or 108 dress-up dinners at sea.

Packing is so much fun. Okay, I just lied to you. Thinking about packing is more fun than actually doing it. Ditto dreaming about going Around The World in 80 Days – or 108 days – with a world-famous lady.
