Oftentimes, parents and educators are stumped as to how to answer the question of involvement. Sure, children can be reminded over and over again how important it is to reuse and recycle, but sometimes that isn’t enough.
There are books available, for teachers and parents, that show children how they can actively take part in making the planet a better place to live.
Environmental Science Activities Kit: Ready-To-Use Lessons, Labs, and Worksheets for Grades 7-12 by Michael L. Roa (ISBN-10: 0787967009). This is a great book for getting children to look more closely at environmental issues and face the challenge of trying to solve them.
Earth Book for Kids: Activities to Help Heal the Environment by Linda Schwartz (ISBN-10: 0881601950). For elementary children, Earth Book for Kids increases children’s awareness to their environment and teaches children how to reuse their “trash.”
50 Simple Things Kids Can Do to Save the Earth by The EarthWorks Group (ISBN-10: 059044249X). This book is a classic and should be kept in every classroom and home. It is for ages 9-12, and it teaches children to consider their actions and live responsibly.
For young adults who are eager to get up and act on what they believe, check out The Future Is Ours: A Handbook for Student Activists in the 21st Century (ISBN-10: 0805047875) by John W. Bartlett. This book is perfect for the young adult who wants to become involved with environmental issues.
Save Our Planet: 750 Everyday Ways You Can Help Clean Up the Earth by Diane Maceachern (ISBN-10: 0440294037). Written for adults, Save Our Planet provides great tips for helping the environment that can be used by young adults.
