Dear Readers,
I know many of you may have already suffered a winter storm that left your home without electricity. Chilkdren will feel more secure when they know their homes are ready for the possibility of nasty weather. They can learn how to make do and handle life stranded at home without power.
In Preparing for Emergency Weather , kids get pointers for what supplies they will need to have on hand. They can read what heat sources are safe and which are not., how to handle lighting and even what to do to keep busy during the time when they are snowed in. Allowing the child to be director of preparations assures that he will understand what he is up against and the right things to do during a storm.
Being prepared for a crisis helps alleviate fears and give a child a sense of strength he might otherwise lack. Before the next bad weather strikes, work with your children to see that supplies and plans of action are in place. It could mean the difference between a trauma and an adventure.
