Dear Readers,

With spring on its way, kids will enjoy feeding and watching backyard birds. This article, Common Backyard Birds, helps identify Cardinals, American Goldfinches, Blue Jays, Indigo Buntings, and Cedar Waxwings.

Encourage children to get outside for some fresh air and cutivate a love for the birds and nature.

Birdwatching is one of my hobbies and I have found that on cold days the children love to watch birds come to the feeders and they like to learn those birds names and some of the behavior facts. On warmer days we sit and watch humminbirds come to the feeder and listen to other favorite birds sing in the trees around the house.

Thanks for reading Kids'activities,

Hello Readers,

The winter seems to stretch on interminably some years. An walk or two outside when the weather begins to change can be good exercise for the body and for the soul. Children can learn to spot the subtle signs of the changing season and know that spring is definitely on her way.

Getting out in the invigorating fresh air and finding spring coming can be a big spirit lifter for children and adults alike.

Children can divide their search into segments looking at the ground, the trees, the sky and observing wildlife – birds and small animals, to see that spring is coming. There are clues in the sunrise and sunset. There are the buds swelling and the early plants and flowers that sprout up.

There are signs of weather and signs of animal activity like birds flying north and starting nest building that kids can look for to make this adventure – Looking for Signs of Spring – a memorable one.

Dear Readers, Teachers, and Moms,

Do you enjoy the study of weather, clouds, weather forecasting, and storms? My article about cloud spotting is good for teaching students to recognize the types of clouds and learn how they are formed and what type of weather they bring. Storm watching is a study of the formation of cumulonimbus clouds and the lightning, thunder, rainfall, and winds they produce.

I have also written an article about kids making preparations for storms and the loss of electricity. The article informs them of what supplies should be put away for a storm and what safety precautions should be taken. A storm can be a frightening experience for children, but if they take part in the preparations that fear is lessoned.

I hope you enjoy the activities as much as my students and I have.

Dear Readers,

I know many of you may have already suffered a winter storm that left your home without electricity. Chilkdren will feel more secure when they know their homes are ready for the possibility of nasty weather. They can learn how to make do and handle life stranded at home without power.

In Preparing for Emergency Weather , kids get pointers for what supplies they will need to have on hand. They can read what heat sources are safe and which are not., how to handle lighting and even what to do to keep busy during the time when they are snowed in. Allowing the child to be director of preparations assures that he will understand what he is up against and the right things to do during a storm.

Being prepared for a crisis helps alleviate fears and give a child a sense of strength he might otherwise lack. Before the next bad weather strikes, work with your children to see that supplies and plans of action are in place. It could mean the difference between a trauma and an adventure.

Dear Readers,

Do you and your children want to avoid the romance side of Valentine's Day celebrations? Many children are distressed at having to express "love" to a friend.

How can your child do something on the holiday to show he is a caring person and avoid all things mushy ? He can make cards for elderly acquaintances that will make their day. He or she can pass out cards to hospitalized children or spearhead some community cleanup. He can do a favor for a neighbor , teacher, or grandparent. Here in Valentine's Day Project Ideas are ideas for a fun-filled holiday.

Does your child need help making Valentine's Day cards the old-fashioned way? How to Make Valentine's Day Cards lists supplies a child needs along with some simple instructions for Valentine card making.

Dear Readers,

Clouds are a mystery and a fascinating subject to many children. I believe clouds are wonderful to observe and are themselves the greatest indicator of what the weather will be. How to be a Cloudspotter will give kids the basics of cloud lore and some ideas for watching the clouds.

Children can learn the names of clouds and why clouds form the shapes and at altitudes which the are seen. With a bit of study and practice a student may develop the skill of spotting clouds that help him or her make everyday judgements as to what is happening weatherwise.

Another idea for classroom or homeschool study of weather can be found in How to Make a weather Chart --an article about weather study with children.
