Multiple Learning Styles

It wasn't until I reached the sixth year of teaching when I realized that literacy learning is largely dependent on multiple learning styles. Every year I walk into the classroom hoping to raise literacy levles only to find their motivation to read in a second language has dwindled.

I try to incorporate learning styles in my lesson plans very unobtrusively. I use a lot of drama and music in the ESL classroom. I let my hair down but I am not an entertainer. I just try and find the magic language with the students. Over the year I have found that my building a connection that is multi-personality faceted really buys you a place in the classroom.

The student I have taught were remedial level students; they had no patience and motivation to learn. I had to quickly find ways to keep them. Forty minutes is a long time in which to do this.

The literacy learning development is a particular road that I am now and will be on for a while. Multiple learning styles are important in starting the lessons and for that matter, all throughout the lessons. It reinforces the recognition that many weak learners do not have while helps raise their confidence levels in a language they do not yet feel comfortable reading.

My theory is that consistent practice and work with multiple learning styles such as the visual , auditory and kinesthetic learning styles enhance the learning environment and facilitate the teaching and learning cycles.
