If you have an allergy or intolerance to gluten or have celiac disease, then you probably know how difficult it is to figure out which products contain gluten and which do not.
Currently, there is no real working definition of gluten-free. This means that big food companies are hesitant to market products in the gluten-free line. They might produce and market products that don't meet guidelines yet to be developed. Then, they'd have to pull products off the shelves.
The FDA is ready to address this problem as noted in Nutra USA.
The general public is invited to contribute to the discussion over the next couple of months. Then, the FDA will probably move forward with a definition and guidelines. This will help take the guesswork out of buying gluten-free products.
