Posted by Cyndi Allison First there's the turkey. Can it be Thanksgiving without turkey? Usually I make a Traditional Oven Baked Turkey, but sometimes I do a Crock Pot Turkey Breast. If we're having a lot of company, I just do both. Stuffing or Dressing The last couple of years we've had Cornbread Stuffing which is great, but I think I may do Dressing Balls with white bread this time, because that's why my Mom always made for Thanksgiving dinner. Thanksgiving Sides Then, there's the Classic Mashed Potatoes, although I sometimes do Make Ahead Mashed Potatoes wiht no compaints. They are really good, and it's nice to have some stuff done ahead of time. Laugh if you like, but we have to do the French's Green Bean Casserole. OK. It's cliche, but the dish is always empty. The kids don't get excited about it, but Broccoli Salad is one of my favorites, so I think I'll make up a bowl of that. Yum. Dessert We're definately having Southern Pecan Pie this year. My youngest son just got his braces off, and he has requested a pecan pie. No prob. Those are easy to make too Snacks and Appetizers For parties, I always know that Little Smokies will go over well, and that the crock pot will come home empty. The boys also expect Chex Party Mix, Sausage Balls, and Peanut Butter Fudge over the holidays. Often it's more than one batch of all of those family holiday snacks. I also like to whip up some HomeMade Brownies. Those are popular any time I make them. Happy Thanksgiving and happy cooking! Posted by Cyndi Allison Lexington, NC will hold their annual Barbecue Festival on October 24, 2009 this year. That just happens to be my birthday. We go every year to celebrate my birthday (or have in the past), but I think this is first time I recall it actually falling on my birthday. The Barbecue Festival is one of the biggest in the southeast and quite a feat for a small Southern town like Lexington which is close to WInston-Salem and Greensboro. It's helpful to plan ahead, so see my Barbecue Festival Guide at Yes You Can Grill. I offer tips and mention some of the best things to see and do at the Lexington Festival.
