It was all about Kaneria- Asif and Kallis- Prince Duo on the third day of third Test match which was started with an air of anticipated teaser. First few deliveries and early wickets gave ample proof that day will have all the necessary ingredients of a teaser, but here came the hefty blow from South African side in the form of Prince and Kallis. Kallis provide another testimony of his talent and unfazed nerves to handle pressure against any opposition and in all conditions. Asif from one end and Kaneria from the other end hurled every possible item to dislodge this somber but highly effective talisman.
It could have been the biggest chance for Pakistanis to level some past grievances with Proteas, but untimely injuries to some key bowlers brought whole dreams down crashing. Umar Gul and Shoaib Akhter‘s fitness missed one big time chance to take Pakistan on the brink of one famous victory. And adding to the woes problems of man behind the wicket did what could be most cruel considering their hopes in the series. Akmal has been playing non-stop cricket from last few years. What can you expect of him when you are putting load more than his capacity and desire.
Injuries, too much international cricket can be excuses, but what cannot be forgiven is irresponsible show from batsmen in 2nd innings. Whole top order crumbled and left efforts of Asif and Kaneria with exasperation and despondency. Accepted that track was not the great one, but that what Test cricket is all about. To graft yourself in and then turn the tide with determination and will-power as Kallis did in 2nd innings. He was playing on the same pitch or not.
All in all, big chance has been wasted of beating strong side in their own backyard which was set up nicely by their bowlers.
