Toyota Sponsors National Public Lands Day September 30th Nationwide Effort
I stopped in at the Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanic Garden this morning and came across a notice for this annual nationwide event. Just in the nick of time. Short notice , I know, but maybe you can help out somewhere near you tomorrow.
Activities vary from location to location. For example, volunteers at the Arboretum will be given free admission tomorrow and will be helping out with a variety of activities including weeding, mulching, pond clean up, path restoration and what have you.
Last year there were 80,000 volunteers from coast to coast at over 800 locations. This year, organizers hope to top that and reach an even 100,000 folks.
Visit the Public Lands Day web site to check for activities planned in your area or call 800-VOL-TEER (800-865-8337) for information about activities near you. I noticed that my local arboretum is not listed there although it is hosting an event, so I suggest you check directly with your local parks and gardens as well. If there is no even planned for this year, maybe you can encourage them to set one up for next year.
If you are in the Los Angeles area, you might want to visit the Los Angeles County Arboretum and Botanic Garden tomorrow between 9 and 3 and give them a hand at Public Lands Day. I'm sure they'll be glad to see you.
