While I may be a good gardener, handy crafty I am not. So I was happy to come across these easy, illustrated step by step directions for making little paper envelopes just perfect for storing saved seeds -- or for neatly packaging and wrapping them to give as gifts.
Once you make one or two you'll soon get the hang of it -- it really is quick and easy to make these in quantity. You can custom size the envelopes to fit your favorite storage box, or to fit inside a mailing envelope, or to make economical use of a special paper.
The directions show a plain white paper envelope, but you don't have to stop there. You could just as easily use a decorative patterned or special holiday paper as plain white, or you could even use hand made paper or recycled brown paper or specialty paper made with decorative bits of flower petals.... what better packaging for a gift of home saved seed?
Shoot, for that matter, who says you have to save the seed yourself ?! Ahem. The devious among us could buy seed in bulk and repackage it into cute little envelopes. I only said I wasn't "handy crafty" -- that doesn't mean I can't be crafty (grin).
I suppose a clever and technologically adept person could devise a way to print planting instructions directly onto the paper. Or, you could write them out longhand, an old fashioned but still acceptable method and very personalized, too. Or tuck an instruction sheet inside the envelope. Whatever you do, remember to label and date the seeds!
Here are the how to make a seed envelope instructions.
