After five wonderful, exhilarating and --frankly-- at times terrifying years as Travel Grant Administrator when I often wondered how I was supposed to pick just one entry as the winner, I am stepping down from the position.
There are two reasons: my writing is consuming more and more of my time, and I always knew that at some point my other work would have to be sacrificed. Sadly, I will soon be unable to give judging these excellent works the attention that they deserve, and I would rather give the SLF the time to find a replacement.
And after five years and over one hundred and fifty applications, I feel that a fresh perspective is due before my mental processes begin to ossify.
It's been an breathtaking job, and I would like to thank the applicants for making the choices so tough over the years, and to offer my best wishes both to the SLF and to my successor in particular.
