I heard an analogy one time that compared foundation to painting a barn. Imagine going out and building a barn. You would use the best materials you could afford and when it was finished you would paint it to protect it from the wind, rain and other damaging things that could happen to a barn out in the middle of no where. What would happen if you built a barn and never painted it? The wood would soon rot, right? It wouldn't stay in the best of shape over the years of facing the harsh environment. So why do we go outside and not protect our skin? Foundation is our skin "paint". It will help protect our skin, yet so many of us never want to deal with it.
Just because foundation is our "paint" doesn't mean it has to look like that, so check out my new article Foundation Tips to learn the best way to apply your foundation.
