Teaching Phys-Ed

The first thing I observe about kindergarten students is their endless energy. These students are always on the move and enjoy participating in physical education. There are no grunts and groans when the children are escorted to the gymnasium or outside for their weekly lessons.

Often teachers have limited time to teach the basics of math and language, resulting in physical-ed classes being cut short or missed periodically. It is important to keep students excited about moving to ensure they continue this healthy lifestyle into adults. Physical education is just as important as teaching students the basics with reading, writing, and mathematics.

The limited school day is a fact, therefore integrate physical education lessons with math and language lessons. Physical ed lessons can be incorporated into a lesson for five or 30 minutes. It is best to do phys-ed for a minimum of 20 minutes a day, but 5 minutes a day is a great start.
