As a Substitute teacher, I am always shocked by the table manners of some students in junior and high school. Table manners are not a part of most curriculum but I believe teachers should squeeze a lesson or two on table manners for each grade. Students learn what they live and if their home is neglectful of table manners, than the child will be ignorant of what is acceptable or not acceptable.
Teaching table manners can be incorporated into language or drama effortlessly and the lessons can be only 15 minutes a day. I think it is important to teach table manners and other manners to students so we are no longer shocked by some of their disgusting habits. Some students are still neglectful of washing their hands before meals, do a science lesson on germs and what havoc they can create in our bodies. Be creative and have fun when teaching manners to your students.
