Poetry in the Classroom

Poetry is an awesome expression of art to learn about social or academic lessons. Students will more likely remember a poem about the War of 1812 then an essay on the same information. Poetry does not have to be about grand ideas, they can be about the simple things in life such as cleaning the hamster cage.

Riddle poems are a great morning brainteaser to intrigue students as they walk into class. Each week put a new brain teaser on the board or chart paper for students to answer. After some practice students will get better at breaking down the riddle to find an answer.
