Are students taught cursive writing out of habit or is their a need for this fancy penmanship?
After doing a brief survey with family, friends, and teachers, the general consensus was teaching cursive writing is a waste of time with the technology age. Students before they enter kindergarten are computer proficient and are able to surf from one website to the next but they are unable to cursive write their name.
The Montessori school teaches the primary children cursive writing because it develops fine motor skills and is easier to learn than print. Does a child who learns cursive writing smarter than one who does not? Will a child who can hand write a letter be given more opportunities in the world. Only time can tell.
Teachers and parents read the article on cursive writing that outlines the advantages and disadvantages of cursive writing.
