As a Substitute teacher, I have had the privilege of meeting an assortment of students with different learning styles and behavior. You have the students who sit patiently no matter the chaos in the class, then there are the students who create the chaos and finally the students who follow the crowd. My special interest seems to be with the students who create the chaos. I am always wondering why they feel they need to be constantly misbehaving and rejecting every rule and task.
I find these students are more than willing to help and enjoy talking about their interests. Many of the students want someone to listen and by acting out the teacher and their classmates are listening. They don't mind the attention is negative just as long as they are receiving the attention. This article outlines a few ideas to redirect the behavioral students actions before they begin. Behavioral students are not out to annoy teachers they are just looking for an outlet for someone to listen to them.
