Spay Day USA has come and gone for another year. Heartland Animal Hospital in Wichita, KS spayed and neutered 20 dogs and cats at discounted prices for lower income families. The official local and nation wide count of animals spayed and neutered on February 27th won't be available until mid March.
We had 10 employees as well as 4 volunteers work for the morning to help take care of animals recovering from surgery and monitor those in the surgical suite. Our volunteers also helped scrub and sterilize surgical instruments. Novartis Animal Health supplied us with breakfast and lunch and they supplied Deramaxx, a pail reliever, for the dogs recovering from surgery.
I'm very proud of the work we did that day. Every spay and neuter helps in the battle of pet over population.
Please don't wait for Spay Day to neuter your pet. Many clinics offer discounts year round. Spaying or neutering your pet is not only responsible for reasons of pet population but it is also important for the health of the animal.
