If Fido was sprayed by a skunk don't let him in the house! The smell is over powering and hard to get rid of, you'll want to wear old clothes to treat your dog.
Check your dogs eyes, if they are red flush them with sterile saline solution for 5 - 10 minutes.
For the coat and skin shampoos will not be enough. You can purchase skunk odor eliminators at pet supply stores, there are different brands available. Some people use Massengill douche. Mix 2 ounces Massengill with a gallon of water and pour over the dog and let it sit for 15 minutes. Follow with regular shampoo.
Another formula was developed by a chemist, Paul Krebaum. His formula is 1 quart of 3% Hydrogen Peroxide, ΒΌ cup baking soda, and 1 teaspoon of liquid soap (shampoo). Wet the coat and apply solution and leave it on for 3 - 4 minutes. Rinse throughly. Don't let the dog ingest the solution and don't get it in the eyes.
