Rat People

I often hear people say they are a "dog person" or a "cat person" and sometimes I'll hear the occasional "I'm a bird person" but there are people out there that prefer something over the traditional pets, I'm talking about people who might say "I'm a rat person". My personal favorite pocket pet is the rat. Rats have great personalities and I think they are kinda cute.

The doctor I work for has a little girl who had a pet rat when she was about 5 years old, she loved her rat, it would ride around on her shoulder under her beautiful red hair. One day her parents thought it would be fun to take their family to the zoo. While they are walking around the monkey exhibit they noticed a hairless tail emerge from under their daughter's hair, the rat had hitched a ride to the zoo. Her folks said nothing to alarm their daughter but just snickered and kept a close eye on the rodent hitchhiker. When they got back to their car they had a good laugh, their daughter had no idea the rat was there, she was so used to having it on her shoulder she forgot about it. The rat enjoyed its afternoon outing and no harm was done, but now before the family goes out they do a rodent check under everyone's hair, no need for a repeat performance, next time it might be a nice family dining establishment and something tells me that the rat may not sleep through that outing.
